Vietnamese in Google Voice Search, again

Not so long ago, I was wondering what kind of technology behind Vietnamese speech recognition in Google Voice Search.

Well, here are some more details from Google Research, just for the sake of your curiosity. It turns out that they really used the large-scale neural network infrastructure featured in Andrew Ng’s paper on “discovering cats” on YouTube. Moreover, they had to implement some tricks to deal with the Vietnamese language, which is both tonal and “heavily diacritized”.
