Machines taking University entrance exams

Ever wondering if a machine can take (and pass) university entrance exams? The CLEF QA4MRE 2013 Lab has just launched a contest in which participants are asked to build a system that can take exams under the same conditions humans are evaluated to enter the University. The dataset is collected from real exams, and looking into some sample questions, one can see that they are not obvious…

This kind of problems is quite exciting since it does not really well fitted in any conventional NLP topics. It is about the capability of reading comprehension, which is somewhat not far from IBM Watson‘s performance recently.

It is worth looking forward to the result of this contest. What if, for instance, IBM takes their Watson to this “exam”?
